Rules for book-borrowing:

Our library implements an integrated management system that combines collection, borrowing, and reading services. The specific borrowing guidelines are as follows:

  1. Readers are required to use their library cards (campus all-in-one cards) to borrow books.

  2. Library cards are for personal use only and must not be lent to others.

  3. Borrowing Limits and Durations:

         Number of Books Borrowed:

              For teachers: 30 books

                  For students: 30 books

         Borrowing Duration:

                  For teachers: 2 months

             For students: 1 month

  1. Renewal Rules:

Readers are allowed one renewal. For students, the renewal duration is 1 month, and for teachers, it is 2 months. (To renew, log in to the Harbin Institute of Technology website - Library - My Library - Log in to your personal account - Check available books for renewal and proceed with the renewal.)

  1. Fine Rules:

Overdue fines are charged at a rate of 0.05 yuan per book per day.

Readers who damage books will be fined between 10% and 50% of the book's price, depending on the severity of the damage.

If fines are incurred, please pay them at the service desk.

  1. Rules for Compensation for Lost Books

If a book is lost, the reader can choose to either compensate with replacement book or pay a monetary fine. Compensating with a replacement book is preferred (Requirements for replacement book: Please purchase an authentic copy from a legitimate bookstore. The original book title, author, and publisher must all match exactly. A higher - edition version is acceptable). For monetary compensation in case of lost books: The amount of compensation for a lost book (in yuan) = Original book price × 3 (yuan). Before making compensation, please confirm whether you will replace the book or pay a fine. Once the fine is paid, it cannot be refunded.

7. Supplementary Regulations:

(1) For those who are unable to return books on time due to reasons such as going out on business trips or participating in factory internships, they should first go through the relevant procedures at the library. After obtaining approval from the department head, they can return the books within one week after returning to school. Otherwise, the books will be treated as overdue.

(2) The borrowed books should be inspected face-to-face. If there is any damage, missing pages, or loss of a CD, the reader should promptly declare it to the library staff, who will then stamp a 'damaged' mark on the book to clarify responsibility.

(3) Readers should take good care of the books. They are not allowed to arbitrarily mark, deface, or tear pages from the books. The attached facilities in the books (such as magnetic strips, barcodes, and CDs) should be protected and not damaged or altered. Violators will be severely punished.

(4) Readers should consciously go through the borrowing procedures when borrowing books. Anyone who takes books out of the library without permission will be regarded as having stolen the books and will be reported to the school for notification and punishment.

(5) The borrowing card should be kept properly. Once lost, the reader should immediately report the loss to prevent any consequences arising from illegal use by others due to delayed reporting. All responsibilities will be borne by the cardholder.
