2021年3月25日, 图书馆留学生服务中心采访了本校土木学院的留学生Quirin Alaye同学,了解一下留学生们对图书馆服务的评价及建议。
热情、聪明的Alaye同学来自西非国家贝宁。他已经在哈工大学习、生活了九年了,攻读硕士和博士学位。九年的生活里他对哈工大的了解已经很多了。
当谈起哈工大图书馆时,他说哈工大的图书馆和他祖国的大学图书馆非常不同。首先,哈工大图书馆的硬件设施,比如电子设备和家具装修都非学好。其次,图书馆里浓厚的学习氛围给学生们营造了很好的学习环境。所以他经常来图书馆学习和写论文。
去年建立的图书馆留学生服务中心对他的帮助很大。Alaye觉得这个部门目前提供的服务很适合博士生的需要,比如他经常来这儿查找科技文献,认证论文发表。每次来到中心的办公室,都得到老师们的热情接待,办理事务很顺畅。不过以前,Alaye很少来图书馆办事儿,因为与大家在语言沟通上不太方便。但自从有了这个部门以后,这个问题就得到了解决,中心的老师为留学生们提供了高效、专业的图书馆服务。
Alaye从留学生的角度对图书馆的服务提出了建议。他说他现在使用的英文专业书是他的导师给他的,图书馆里没有这些书的馆藏。因此,希望图书馆能多购买些英文专业书,不仅留学生可以使用,中国学生也可以通过阅读这些英文专业书来提高自己的专业外语和专业能力。
图书馆留学生服务中心将要推出关于数字资源和数据库使用的英语培训讲座,我们请Alaye就此分享他的想法。他说,培训讲座对于留学生来说是非常必要而有用的,因为学习使用数据库对科研非常重要。他很感谢图书馆能提供这类以英语讲授的培训,让他感受到图书馆在真正考虑留学生的学习需求。
通过与Quirin Alaye的交谈,我们对于留学生的真正想法有了更深的认识,能够为本部门及图书馆今后工作的改进提供参考。
On March 25, 2021, the Library Service Center for International Students conducted a small interview with Quirin Alaye, an international student from the School of Civil Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology. The purpose of this interview is to know the evaluation of the Service Center from the perspective of international students and their suggestions for our library.
Alaye who’s enthusiastic and smart comes from Benin, a country located in West Africa. He has been studying and living in China since 2012 pursuing master and doctoral degrees. He knows HIT very well because he has been here for 9 years, including postgraduate and doctoral studies.
When talking about the library of HIT, he said that the library here is very different from those in his country. Firstly, the hardware facilities in HIT library are of good quality, including the electronic equipment and the furniture. Secondly, the flourishing learning atmosphere in the library provides a good environment to students. That’s why he often comes to the library to study and write thesis.
The Service Center for International Students, a department established last year, has been very helpful to Alaye according to him. He thinks the services provided by this department are especially useful for PHD students. For instance, he often comes here to search the scientific literature and get his papers stamped. Every time he came to the office, he was warmly welcomed, and he could get any help he wanted. He mentioned that he seldom came to the library before the establishment of this department because due to the language barrier,it’s difficult for him to communicate with others.But now, it’s not a problem anymore. Teachers in this department are so professional and warm-hearted that they can offer library services to international students with great efficiency.
As for the library, he made sincere suggestions from the perspective of international students. He said most of his professional books in English were given by his supervisor because they cannot be obtained from the library. Therefore, he thinks it’s better for our library to provide more English books, not only for the international students, but also for the local students who want to study English and learn more in their academic fields.
The Library Service Center for International Students is going to provide an English lecture about how to use digital resources and the database to the international students. We invited QUIRIN ALAYE to share his thoughts. He thinks the lecture is necessary and extremely useful for international students because learning to use databases is essential for scientific research. He appreciated the Service Centre for offering these lectures, which makes him feel that the library is truly taking care of the needs of international students.
Through the communication with Quirin Alaye, we can get a closer understanding of the real thoughts of international students, which could provide reference for the improvements of follow-up work in the Service Center and the library.
